FIDES is an international movement dedicated to the continuous improvement of digital trust on the internet.

Backed by a non-profit foundation, FIDES facilitates shared R&D (FIDES Labs), interoperability events (FIDES Plugfests), and connects digital ecosystems (FIDES Ecosystems), all based on the principles of the FIDES Manifesto. Initially, we focus on the international adoption of trusted digital identities for people, organisations, and “things”, which we consider the basis for digital trust.

FIDES Manifesto

The FIDES Manifesto outlines principles to guide the improvement of digital trust in the coming years. It serves as a non-binding but agreed set of principles for designing and implementing digital solutions and ecosystems, promoting continuous improvement alongside technological advancements. Every entity - individual, public, or private - is invited to ratify the FIDES Manifesto and embrace this shared vision of Digital Trust, encouraging collective efforts from which we all benefit.

FIDES Organization

FIDES has been initiated by a broad group of public and private stakeholders.

FIDES operates under a non-profit Dutch foundation “Stichting ECP - Platform voor de InformatieSamenleving” Since 25 years, ECP has been a widely trusted, neutral, independent facilitator of public-private partnerships related to the Digital Society. Partnerships where government, business community and social institutions come together to exchange knowledge and cooperate to exploit the opportunities that the information society provides, and to mitigate the threats posed by the online world.

Between July and December 2024, the FIDES governance will be formalized. Input will be gathered by the co-initiators, the initial sponsors and supporters, and during public meetups. The initial steps of FIDES have been taken by Victor van der Hulst and Harmen van der Kooij (the co-initiators). Over the next six months, a FIDES team will be appointed by the FIDES governance. The objective is to establish a flexible, lean & mean team, that facilitates generic activities.
