Decentralized PHC Credentials in the Future AI Era.
by Digital Identity Foundation
The primary motivation behind creating this proof of concept is to demonstrate how Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) and Verifiable Credentials (VCs), aligned with W3C standards, can be integrated with on-chain blockchain technology i.e (CHEQD). This approach enables the deployment, storage, and verification of proof of human identity. What it does 1.Government ID Issuance: A government agency issues an ID to the holder, which is required to obtain a PHC Verifiable Credential (VC). 2.Presenting ID to PHC Provider: The holder presents their government-issued VC from their wallet to the PHC provider, a trusted authority. 3.Fingerprint Biometric Capture: Once the government ID is verified, the user scans their fingerprint using PHC’s biometric infrastructure, which extracts unique fingerprint features. 4.Online Authentication : When accessing an online service that requires PHC verification, the user shares the PHC credential from their wallet with the service. 5.Verification Process: The service provider’s DIDComm v2 agent performs ZKP verification with the holder’s data. If verified, access is granted; otherwise, it is denied.

How it works
The DIDComm v2 agent is implemented entirely in Python, enabling secure message exchange between the Issuer, Holder, and Verifier.
DID:Peer protocol implementation and DID generation are also developed in Python.
We use the Universal DID Resolver/Registrar with cheqd to register and resolve DIDs on the cheqd testnet.
The complete Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) circuit is written in Circom, with proofs generated using the Circom compiler.
Proof Generation Flow
Feature Extraction: Fingerprint bifurcation and termination points are extracted, flattened, and combined into a single array.
Poseidon Merkle Tree: The data is hashed into a Poseidon-based Merkle tree, producing the root commitment and 8 sibling hashes for efficient proof generation.
Proof Generation: The Circom circuit compiles using these hashes to generate the proof, verification key, and public inputs, which are signed by the issuer.
Verification: The verifier extracts the proof and public inputs from the credential and validates them using zk-SNARKs, returning true or false.

The FIDES Use Case Catalog aims to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of how verifiable credentials and digital wallets are used in the real world. While FIDES Labs BV does not assume responsibility or liability for the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of the information presented, we have made a best effort to compile a representative overview. The data is aggregated from publicly available sources and from information published by the organisations themselves.
Add or update a use case:
- List your organization first (if it is not in the Organizations catalog).
- Then submit a use case or suggest an update to an existing use case.
Both flows require a FIDES Community account. Submissions are reviewed before publication.
- Add use case
- Update use case — find your use case and submit changes
- Logged-in users can also use Suggest an update (pencil icon) in a detail view of a use case.
