FIDES Terms of Service

Last updated: 11 August 2026

1. Who we are and what these Terms cover

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and FIDES Labs BV, Vredenburg 40, 3511 BD Utrecht, the Netherlands (“FIDES”, “we”, “us”).

They govern your use of:

  • the FIDES website at fides.community;
  • the FIDES Ecosystem Explorer and related catalogs;
  • the public catalog APIs at api.fides.community;
  • the AI connector / MCP server at api.fides.community/api/mcp;
  • the conversational assistant offered on the FIDES website;
  • optional accounts, organization listings, submissions and community features;
  • paid plans, subscriptions and related online services offered by FIDES, including FIDES Pro and any other plan displayed on our website,

together referred to as the “Service”.

By accessing or using the Service, creating an account, submitting content, using the APIs or MCP server, purchasing a paid plan, or accepting these Terms at checkout, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. Cookies are described in our Cookie Policy.

2. Scope of these Terms

These Terms govern only the use of the FIDES platform, website, Ecosystem Explorer, APIs, MCP server, AI assistant, accounts, paid plans and related online services.

Professional consulting services, implementation projects, training, workshops, labs, event partnerships, custom development, advisory work and other professional services provided by FIDES Labs BV are not governed by these Terms, unless expressly stated otherwise. Such services are governed by separate proposals, statements of work, order forms or agreements.

3. The Service

The Service provides access to the FIDES catalogs, glossary and public website content: an ecosystem directory for digital trust, digital identity, wallets, credentials, issuers, relying parties, technologies, use cases and related organizations.

Some parts of the Service are available free of charge. Other parts are available only through a paid plan or a separate agreement. The features, limits and pricing of paid plans are described on the relevant plan page or in the order process.

We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service from time to time. For paid plans, we will make reasonable efforts not to materially reduce the core paid features during a current paid billing period, unless required for security, legal, operational, abuse-prevention or compliance reasons.

Platform evolution. FIDES continuously develops the Service and may introduce, modify or discontinue features, participation mechanisms and account functionality. Such changes do not create an obligation to maintain any specific feature indefinitely.

4. Business use and authority to represent an organization

FIDES Pro and other paid plans are intended for organizations, professional users and business customers. They are not intended for consumers.

If you purchase a paid plan, create an account, claim an organization listing, submit information or manage information on behalf of an organization, you represent that:

  • you are authorized to act on behalf of that organization;
  • the information you provide is accurate, current and not misleading;
  • you have the right to submit, edit, approve or manage the relevant organization listing, logo, description, contact details, links, videos, use cases or other materials;
  • your use of the Service does not violate any internal policy, contractual obligation or applicable law.

We may request additional verification before granting or continuing access to official listing management, enhanced profiles, API/MCP access or other paid features. We may refuse, suspend or revoke access where we cannot reasonably verify your authority, where there is a dispute about an organization listing, or where we reasonably believe the Service is being misused.

5. Paid plans and subscriptions

Paid plans may be offered as monthly, yearly or otherwise recurring subscriptions. The applicable plan, price, billing period, included features and limits are shown on the plan page and/or during checkout.

Unless stated otherwise:

  • subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled;
  • you authorize FIDES and its payment providers to charge the applicable recurring fees using the payment method selected at checkout;
  • cancellation prevents future renewals but does not automatically entitle you to a refund for the current billing period;
  • access to paid features normally continues until the end of the already paid billing period;
  • we may suspend or restrict access if payment fails, is reversed, is disputed, or remains overdue;
  • unused API/MCP calls, features, credits or usage allowances do not roll over to a later billing period;
  • plan features and prices may change over time. Price changes for existing subscriptions will not apply before the next renewal unless otherwise agreed or required by law.

You can cancel a subscription through the account or customer portal where available, or by contacting us at info@fides.community. For larger organizations, procurement processes or invoice-based payment, we may agree separate billing terms in writing.

6. Prices, taxes and invoices

Prices are stated excluding VAT and other taxes unless expressly stated otherwise. VAT, sales tax or other taxes may be added at checkout where applicable.

You are responsible for providing accurate billing information, including your organization name, billing address, country and VAT or tax identification number where applicable.

For EU business customers outside the Netherlands, a valid VAT identification number may be required for reverse-charge treatment where applicable. If reverse charge applies, the invoice may be issued without VAT and marked “VAT reverse charged”, “btw verlegd” or equivalent wording.

If you do not provide valid billing or tax information, we may charge VAT or other taxes as required, refuse automated checkout, or ask you to use an invoice/contact process instead.

Invoices and payment confirmations may be provided electronically.

7. Payment processing

Payments and subscriptions are processed through third-party payment and checkout providers, including SureCart and Mollie, and possibly other providers made available during checkout.

These providers may collect and process information needed to complete the payment, manage subscriptions, prevent fraud, comply with financial regulations and provide payment-related services. Your use of their payment services may also be subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

FIDES does not store full credit card, bank account or payment authentication details on its own systems.

8. Accounts

Most public parts of the Service require no account. Some community features, submissions, voting, official listing management, paid features and account management functions require sign-in.

Account features. Registered accounts enable participation in features that are not available to anonymous visitors. These may include suggesting additions or corrections, managing official listings, expressing appreciation through Likes, participating in community voting and other participation features introduced as the Service evolves.

You are responsible for:

  • keeping your sign-in method secure;
  • ensuring that account information is accurate;
  • all activity under your account;
  • ensuring that any users acting on behalf of your organization comply with these Terms.

You must notify us promptly if you believe your account or organization access has been misused.

Platform communications. FIDES may send registered users occasional communications relating to their account, platform functionality, participation features, interoperability developments, governance or other matters directly related to the operation and development of the Service. These communications are part of the Service and are distinct from marketing communications.

9. Data ownership and control

FIDES is built on the principle that organizations should remain in control of the information they choose to make available about themselves, their products, services, credentials, wallets, issuers, relying-party activities, technologies and use cases.

The FIDES Ecosystem Explorer is a federated discovery platform. Organizations are responsible for publishing, maintaining and controlling the information they submit, approve or manage through the Service.

FIDES aggregates, structures, indexes and makes information discoverable and accessible through the website, the Ecosystem Explorer, APIs, MCP server, AI assistant and other discovery services. Catalog information may originate from organizations themselves, user submissions, trusted public sources, public registries and other sources considered relevant to the digital trust ecosystem.

Publication, aggregation, indexing or display of information through the Service does not transfer ownership of that information to FIDES. Organizations retain any rights they hold in the information they publish, submit or manage. FIDES receives only the rights needed to operate, display, structure, index, distribute and make the information discoverable through the Service, as described in these Terms.

FIDES may create derived metadata, classifications, tags, indexes, summaries, links and technical identifiers to make catalog information searchable and interoperable. These FIDES-created structures and metadata may be used by FIDES as part of the Service.

Organizations remain responsible for the accuracy, legality and maintenance of the information they publish, submit, approve or manage through the Service. FIDES may moderate, correct, remove or restrict information in accordance with these Terms.

10. Organization listings, submissions and public content

Catalog entries may be published by listed organizations, submitted by users, or compiled from public sources. Paid plans may allow organizations to manage or approve certain official listings or enhanced profile information.

By submitting, approving or managing content, you confirm that:

  • the content is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • you have the rights and permissions needed to provide it;
  • publication does not infringe third-party rights or confidentiality obligations;
  • FIDES may display, reproduce, structure, index, adapt for formatting, and make the content available through the website, Explorer, APIs, MCP server, AI assistant and related discovery services.

We may moderate, edit, reject, remove or de-prioritize content where we reasonably believe it is inaccurate, misleading, unlawful, outdated, promotional in a way that undermines the directory, infringes rights, creates security risks, or conflicts with the purpose of the Service.

Listing in FIDES does not constitute certification, endorsement, compliance approval or a recommendation by FIDES, unless expressly stated in writing.

11. Catalog content and accuracy

We aim to keep catalog information useful and current, but we do not warrant that the content is complete, accurate, current or error-free. Digital trust ecosystems, standards, wallets, credentials and projects change frequently.

You should verify important information with the relevant organization, official source or underlying documentation before relying on it for legal, compliance, procurement, security or operational decisions.

If you are an organization listed in a catalog and wish to correct or remove an entry, contact us at info@fides.community.

12. API, MCP and data use

The public APIs and MCP server are intended to support discovery, interoperability, research, AI-assisted lookup and lawful reuse of FIDES catalog information.

You may use catalog data you retrieve for your own lawful purposes, including answering questions through an AI assistant, provided that you comply with these Terms and do not present the data in a misleading way.

Unless expressly agreed in writing, you may not:

  • redistribute the FIDES catalogs as a standalone dataset;
  • build a substantially similar competing directory by systematically copying the database;
  • scrape, harvest or bulk-download the data outside the provided interfaces and reasonable fair-use limits;
  • exceed applicable API/MCP limits;
  • remove source attribution where it is reasonably expected;
  • imply certification, endorsement or approval by FIDES or any listed organization.

Paid plans may include specific API/MCP usage limits, such as a maximum number of calls per month. We may apply rate limits, usage monitoring, authentication, origin controls and other technical measures. We may suspend or restrict API/MCP access where we reasonably believe these Terms are violated or the Service is being misused.

13. AI assistant and connector use

When you use the conversational assistant or connect the MCP server to a third-party AI assistant:

  • your queries may be transmitted to third-party AI providers to generate responses, as described in the Privacy Policy;
  • AI-generated answers may be inaccurate or incomplete;
  • you should not rely on AI-generated answers as legal, compliance, procurement, security or professional advice;
  • your use of any third-party assistant is also subject to that provider’s own terms and policies.

14. Acceptable use

When using the Service you agree not to:

  • use it in any way that breaches applicable law or the rights of others;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to, interfere with, or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure;
  • impose an unreasonable load on the Service, circumvent rate limits, or use it in a way intended to degrade availability for others;
  • submit false, misleading, infringing, unlawful, confidential or unauthorized content;
  • misrepresent the source of data or imply endorsement by FIDES or by an organization listed in the catalogs;
  • use the Service for malware, phishing, spam, harassment, fraud or other harmful activity.

We may suspend, restrict or block access that we reasonably believe violates these Terms.

15. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. You may cancel any paid subscription in accordance with Section 5. Cancellation prevents future renewals but does not automatically entitle you to a refund for the current billing period, unless required by applicable law or expressly agreed otherwise.

FIDES may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, including paid features, account access, listing management, API access and MCP access, if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the Service, fail to pay applicable fees, create security or integrity risks, provide misleading information, or where suspension or termination is required by law or by a third-party service provider on which the Service depends.

Where reasonably possible, we will provide notice before suspending or terminating paid access, unless immediate action is needed for security, legal, payment, fraud-prevention or abuse-prevention reasons.

Sections relating to data ownership and control, submitted content, intellectual property, payment obligations, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law and any other provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive termination.

16. Intellectual property

The FIDES name, logos, website design, software, structure and presentation of the Service are owned by FIDES Labs BV or its licensors.

Catalog data may include third-party names, logos and trademarks, which remain the property of their respective owners.

Submitting content does not transfer ownership of that content to FIDES, but you grant FIDES the rights needed to operate, publish, index, structure and make that content available as part of the Service.

17. Force majeure

FIDES will not be liable for any delay, interruption or failure to perform its obligations under these Terms where such delay, interruption or failure results from events beyond its reasonable control.

Such events may include, without limitation, internet or telecommunications failures, cyberattacks, denial-of-service attacks, failures of third-party hosting, payment, AI, infrastructure or software providers, power outages, natural disasters, war, terrorism, labor disputes, governmental actions, regulatory changes, changes in applicable law, or other events that could not reasonably have been prevented or avoided by FIDES.

18. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, current, or suitable for any specific legal, compliance, procurement, security or operational purpose.

19. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FIDES Labs BV will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, business opportunity or anticipated savings, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

For paid plans, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the paid plan is limited to the amount actually paid by you to FIDES for that paid plan in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable mandatory law.

20. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date above.

For material changes affecting paid plans, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

21. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes will be submitted to the competent court in Midden-Nederland, Utrecht, the Netherlands, without prejudice to any mandatory rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
