Global Digital Collaboration 2025

Back from 2 exciting days of Global Digital Collaboration in Geneva. Bringing together over 1500 participants from public and private organizations across the world, all focused on the global adoption of digital wallets and credentials. The event exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Organized by more than 40 organizations with just 3.5 months of preparation. An amazing achievement that demonstrates collective dedication and passion. This would never have been possible without the vision, leadership, and guts from the Swiss Confederation. A special thank you to Daniel Goldscheider and Rolf Rauschenbach.

This GDC fits wonderfully with the objectives of the FIDES Community. We are grateful to be able to contribute to this event as one of the co-organizers, with many FIDES Community members attending and presenting. It was great to present what the FIDES Community stands for, to give a walkthrough of the Sustainable Cities Global Interop Track, and to demo the Rotterdam portal and organizational wallet. We also shared an overview of the Community Tools: open and reusable resources that anyone can use to get started with wallets, credentials and testing. Three of our partners (Ana Goessens, Ramesh Narayanan, and Sean Bohan) shared what value the community brings to them. The session was well received, even though we competed with some popular parallel tracks and the room was a bit hard to find. The welcome drinks on Monday and the GDC Morning Run on Tuesday were fun and informal ways to connect.

Although this was a fantastic event, we all realize how much more is needed to reach our shared goals. Especially in Europe, developments appear to be driven mainly by regulation instead of user demand. Regulation brings clarity and urgency, but when adoption is driven by compliance, ambition tends to stay low. Outside Europe, we saw examples that are further ahead, with India in particular often cited.

Let’s keep this collaborative spirit alive. The FIDES Community certainly will. We’re building an open and diverse global ecosystem, where live, concrete examples of cross-border solutions are shared, especially those that show the benefits of digital wallets and credentials for relying parties.

The next GDC event has already been announced: August 2026. Count on us to be there again!
